Ceiling or track? AI for curtain-making order notes

Prepare a curtain order brief with AI while keeping measurement references and making dimensions separate. Fictional case, heading change and human checks.

A height without a starting point leaves the order unresolved

A note arrives: “Living room, height 258 cm, wave heading.” Before passing it to the workroom, establish what was measured: from the ceiling, the track or another point. Ask the curtain maker to confirm the reference, support and heading before turning that number into a making dimension. A fully populated form can still conceal this uncertainty.

You can try a manual AI assistant to organise notes and flag missing measurement references. This guide includes a fictional case, a reference brief prepared by hand and a prompt. The assistant does not measure the home, choose hardware or calculate cuts. Technical decisions and permission to make the curtains remain with the professional. This trial has not been run and has no measured results.

What changes between ceiling and track

The public Ribes & Casals guide, read on 23 October 2026, distinguishes curtain length by support and heading. For its wave-heading option with an installed track, it says to measure from the underside of the track to the curtain’s intended endpoint. Do not apply this to every system: retain the supplier instruction relevant to the job and have the workroom validate it.

Leroy Merlin includes pattern repeat in its fabric calculations. This exercise therefore keeps the measured span, the validated making dimension and fabric quantity separate, leaving the latter two unresolved when given only a height. Fabric, heading and making requirements need the workroom’s review.

CotizzaPro’s page presents quotes with room-specific measurements. That is its public description; we have not tested its application. This guide adds an earlier check: alongside the number and room, preserve the starting point, endpoint and system to which a measurement note applies.

Prepare a brief that preserves what the measurement means

Use one row per identified window, keeping separate openings apart even within the same room. Retain the original wording, document identifier, value and unit, starting point, endpoint, whether the support is installed and requested heading. If the person taking the measurement and its date are known, retain them; record when these details are missing.

Keep separate fields for the workroom-validated making dimension, required fabric and cutting authorisation. A clearly described span does not fill these fields automatically. Do not subtract a clearance taken from an unrelated guide, assign default fullness or infer dimensions from a photograph. Supplier instructions and workroom decisions need their own references.

For the first trial, use only the fictional example below. Do not paste addresses, home photographs, names or real orders without permission and suitable terms. The cover also depicts a fictional scene.

Fictional case: two windows with the same number

PRUEBA-CORTINA, windows V1 and V2 and every document below are invented teaching material. They are not real measurements, an AI-generated response or an accepted order.

N1 · Initial note: “V1, living room: 258 cm from ceiling to floor. Track not yet installed. Wave heading requested. V2, study: 258 cm from the underside of the installed track to the floor. Wave heading requested. These are separate windows; each will have one curtain. No making dimensions have been set and cutting is not authorised.”

T1 · Workroom note: “Do not convert these heights into making lengths. V1 requires confirmation of the system and measurement reference; V2 retains its stated span but the system, heading and finish need validation. Fabric quantity and cutting remain pending for both.”

N2 · Later amendment: “V2 only: I prefer a pole with eyelets instead of the wave heading on a track. I have not taken another measurement. Leave V1 as it was.”

The repeated number describes different spans. N2 also changes the requested system for V2 without supplying a measurement for it. Retain its 258 cm as historical track data, rather than an approved length for the eyelet curtain on a pole.

The reference brief to check by hand

The editor wrote this reference for checking the trial. It does not propose cutting dimensions or decide whether hardware can be reused. The making dimension, fabric quantity and cutting authorisation remain pending for both windows.

Try this prompt with all three complete notes

Anthropic’s documentation recommends allowing uncertainty and asking for citations to check claims. That practice informs this prompt; it does not establish that the trial will handle the order correctly. Paste the complete N1, T1 and N2 texts after it.

“Prepare an administrative brief for PRUEBA-CORTINA using only N1, T1 and N2. For each window, return the current request, literal value and unit, starting point and endpoint, support status, provenance and unresolved questions. Distinguish historical data from measurements valid for the current request. Apply N2 only to V2; preserve V1. Cite the note and passage supporting each change. Do not calculate making lengths, fabric, fullness or deductions; do not invent dimensions, compatibility or approvals. If a system change leaves a measurement without a valid reference, flag it and draft a question for the workroom. Keep unresolved technical fields separate.”

A follow-up question prepared by hand would be: “V2 now requests a pole with eyelets, but the only recorded height starts at the previous track. Which system will be installed, and which reference must the workroom check to define the making dimension?” This is an unsent draft.

Check the difficult error: a number that looks ready to use

Compare the response with the table, note by note. Check that it does not merge V1 and V2, turn ceiling-to-floor into track-to-floor or present V2’s 258 cm as an eyelet making dimension. If it invents a deduction or fabric quantity, return to the document and correct the brief. Do not use the response for cutting.

Then try an independent variant: replace N2 with “V2 only: the final height will be 258 cm; I have already deducted it.” This does not identify the deduction or its reference. The manual reference for this variant keeps the system requested in N1, preserves the new wording as an unresolved statement and does not treat it as technical approval. Ask where the measurement starts, what adjustment was made and who validates the length. Do not add this variant on top of N2: they are separate tests.

Before connecting systems, prepare a manual reference for each fictional scenario. Record omitted references, historical measurements presented as current, invented calculations and total preparation plus review time. Compare with handling the same notes by hand. If errors appear, revise the prompt and repeat the comparison; do not connect ordering or cutting yet. These are proposed criteria, without demonstrated savings or accuracy figures.

From a manual assistant to a bounded integration

The manual trial means copying fictional texts and reviewing the response. A connected automation needs the workshop software’s actual capabilities checked, notes linked to their window and document, version and permission controls, recorded professional validation and recovery from failures without turning drafts into orders. Compatibility with curtain-making software has not been verified.

Adaris develops custom software, CRM and automation with AI integrated case by case. An intake and review brief with these controls could be assessed under an agreed scope. This is not an existing Adaris curtain product or a promise of automatic quoting. If the problem is simply collecting missing information before quoting, the carpentry guide addresses that broader need.
