Fictional print worker reviews a sheet beside two rolls of blank labels in a printing workshop

Artwork approved, but the roll? Check it with AI

Trial AI to compare roll-label orders: printed face, leading edge, reference chart and diameters, without confirming compatibility or production.

Equipo Adaris TechApproximate reading time: 6 min

The artwork can be approved while the roll specification remains open

The customer approves the artwork and requests “unwind 3, as usual”. Someone enters “inside” on the quote sheet while the email says “printed face out”. The supply specification still needs clarification before manufacture. This guide proposes trialling AI to collect these discrepancies with their source documents and prepare a specific question.

The trial separates printed face, leading edge, reference chart and diameters. It does not select a compatible roll or authorise production. It includes a fictional comparison reviewed manually: use it as a reference when checking the assistant’s response.

Two winding questions and two different diameters

MCC distinguishes labels facing out or in and relates head, tail and side edges to text orientation. For blank labels it requests specifying whether the wide or narrow edge leads. In this trial, “outside” and “head first” therefore answer separate questions.

SendWePrint requests machine documentation, an unwind diagram, inside core diameter and maximum outside roll diameter. Liberty also publishes supply data and a rewind chart. These catalogues help identify fields; they do not establish what your customer’s machine accepts. Keep the specific chart with any orientation number.

A fictional order with a conflict you must not settle by intuition

All documents, references and values below are invented for this exercise; they are not real machine specifications or manufacturing recommendations. F1, email for job L-24, says: “Design MIEL-A; printed face out; head of text leading. Required inside core diameter: 76 mm; maximum outside roll diameter: 200 mm.” F2, quote sheet, says: “MIEL-A; inside winding; unwind 3; diameter 76 mm.” The unwind 3 chart is not attached.

The last column is our manual text review, not an AI response. Preserve each statement’s scope: a requirement declared in F1 does not establish that the machine actually accepts it.

Manual exercise reference; clarification and professional validation remain outstanding
FieldFictional documentsResult to check
Printed faceF1: out. F2: inside.Preserve the conflict and request confirmation; do not change the quote automatically.
Leading edgeF1: head of text leading. F2: unwind 3 without chart.Keep F1’s description; request F2’s diagram before comparison. Do not claim equivalence or conflict between the codes.
Inside core diameterF1: required 76 mm. F2: diameter 76 mm.F1 identifies the field and unit. F2 does not identify which diameter: request its name rather than completing it from the matching number.
Maximum outside roll diameterF1: maximum 200 mm. F2: unspecified.Record F1’s declared limit and F2’s missing field; do not turn the limit into a manufactured roll’s actual diameter.

Prepare a question the customer can answer

For the exercise, a draft question could read: “For MIEL-A, the email specifies printed face out and the sheet says inside. Which supply specification should be confirmed? Attach the chart corresponding to unwind 3 and the applicable labeller documentation. Clarify whether the sheet’s 76 mm means inside core diameter and confirm the declared outside limit.” This is a proposed question, not a sent message or a received confirmation.

Do not choose the sheet because it looks more formal or the email because it arrived later. Record who clarifies the conflict, which document is replaced and which version is authorised. Artwork approval is a separate decision; the text can be approved while the supply specification remains unapproved.

Request text comparison, with quotations and visible gaps

Start with F1 and F2 in an authorised text assistant, without customer documents. Before using real information, review permissions, processing terms, access and retention. Do not upload confidential artwork or order photographs containing personal data for this trial.

  • Proposed instruction: “Compare F1 and F2 only for job L-24 and design MIEL-A. Return field, literal value, unit, document, quotation, explicit agreement, conflict and pending question. Separate printed face, leading edge, orientation chart, inside core diameter and maximum outside roll diameter. Do not translate unwind 3 into an orientation without its chart. Do not assign an unnamed diameter to a field because the numbers match. Preserve maximum and required as declared conditions. Do not determine compatibility, change files, send questions or approve production.”
  • Check every row against F1 and F2. If the model turns unwind 3 into head first, removes the inside/outside conflict or completes F2’s field without asking, correct the proposal and retain the reason. The prompt defines the task; it does not guarantee a correct response.

The test changes when there is no text

Create invented variant F3: “Blank labels, no design or text; rectangle 60 × 40 mm; leading edge to be confirmed.” Do not inherit “head of text leading” from MIEL-A. Request that leading-edge definition and its reference remain pending; do not infer which edge leads from those two dimensions. The professional must clarify the required supply.

Also prepare a sheet without conflicts and one with a missing unit. Save your manual reference before asking AI. Count invented fields, omitted conflicts and codes interpreted without a chart. Compare total preparation, review and correction time with manual comparison. These are proposed metrics: we have not run this pilot or demonstrated savings or accuracy.

As a trial criterion, an invented winding interpretation returns the proposal to review. Even if the texts agree, the responsible person must compare the supply specification with applicable documentation and agree its validation before authorisation. The table does not check adhesive, material, detection, machine operation or application to the container.

When to consider an integration for the workshop

Copying two texts and reviewing their comparison is a manual trial. Connecting the process would require linking job, design, attached chart, versions and decisions; controlling permissions; and separating proposal, question and authorisation. Any connection to quoting or production software is assessed case by case: we claim compatibility with none.

Adaris can assess custom software, CRM or AI automation to organise this document review. Scope could include required fields and a clarification record, subject to available tools and data. Supply approval and technical acceptance remain with the professional. Commercial enquiries are handled in Spanish.
