“Two kilos of hake”: the question to ask before preparation
One note asks for “a whole hake of about two kilos, prepared into loins”. Another asks for “two kilos of hake loins”. If both become “2 kg of loins confirmed”, the order has changed before it reaches the counter. First establish what the weight means: the whole fish before cleaning, prepared product, or a quantity that still needs clarification.
This exercise proposes trying AI as an aid when reviewing fish shop orders: preserve the quantity and its weight basis, flag missing details and draft a specific question. It includes fictional documents, a manual reference and a prompt. It does not calculate yield, weigh fish or confirm charges. The proposed trial has not yet been run.
Do not copy another fish shop’s weight policy
Terms consulted on 24 October 2026 show different approaches. Peix a Casa explains that the paid weight is for the product before handling or cleaning. Pesco & Go says customers receive the selected net weight, already cleaned. These are those businesses’ published terms, not a rule shared by every order.
Define the basis for each product in your own catalogue and preserve the exact request. A whole fish ordered for filleting and a quantity of fillets sold by prepared weight need separate fields. If the customer requests a cleaned quantity but your listing sells whole fish, keep that difference visible for discussion: do not convert kilos using an assumed percentage.
As an organisational alternative, RushPilot describes an order workflow preserving catalogue quantity and unit, with weighing and payment using the shop’s usual scale and till. Its page states the app is in French and the current offer targets France. This does not establish availability in Spain or compatibility with your equipment. Before adding AI, check whether a clearer order sheet is enough.
A useful sheet separates request, preparation and weighing
For this pilot, prepare one row per order line: code, product, exact quantity, unit, requested weight basis, requested preparation, notes and source document. Reserve other fields for recorded weighings, stating what was weighed and where the value came from. A requested quantity must not appear as a scale reading.
Also preserve requests to keep head or bones separately, where present; do not turn them into extra kilos of fillets. Do not infer availability, price, acceptance or delivery from a preparation instruction. The professional must review the order and agree what is needed before preparing it.
Start with fictional data. Do not paste real conversations, phone numbers, addresses or orders into an assistant without permission and suitable data-handling conditions. This is a documentary exercise: it provides no cutting, storage, allergen or food safety instructions. Those decisions follow the business’s professional procedures.
Counter example: three lines with different weight bases
TEST-FISH and every document below were invented by the editor. They are not a real order, an actual weighing or a response obtained from AI. Quantities serve only to check whether their basis changes during summarising.
C1 · Fictional catalogue: “MER-ENTERA is requested as a whole fish, with a target weight before cleaning; preparation can be requested. MER-FILETE is requested by weight of already prepared fillets. LUB-ENTERA’s listing does not specify its weight basis. No stock, prices or weighings for this order are recorded.”
N1 · Order note: “P1 / MER-ENTERA: one whole hake of about 2 kg, weighed before cleaning; prepare into loins and keep head and bones separately. P2 / MER-FILETE: 800 g of already cleaned fillets. P3 / LUB-ENTERA: one sea bass of 1 kg, prepared. Ask about anything unclear before confirming.”
B1 · Summary to review: “P1: 2 kg net of loins guaranteed. P2: 800 g of whole fish before cleaning. P3: 1 kg net prepared. All weighed, price fixed.” There are no further documents in this first version.
What the human review should preserve
This reference was written manually. Use it to compare text produced by the assistant; it is not a preparation order or an availability check.
| Line | Preserve from N1 | Correct in B1 | Question or check |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | One fish of about 2 kg before cleaning; loins; head and bones separately | Remove 2 kg net guaranteed. Prepared weight is not recorded | Review fish and weighings when available; preserve request for separate parts |
| P2 | 800 g requested of already cleaned fillets | Do not change to 800 g of whole fish | Preserve MER-FILETE’s basis; check availability and weighing without inventing them |
| P3 | One sea bass of 1 kg, prepared | Remove net: neither N1 nor C1 specifies the basis | Is that kilo requested before cleaning or as prepared product? |
| Order | Three distinct request lines | Remove all weighed and price fixed | Weighing records and commercial terms are missing; responsible person reviews before confirming |
Prompt: review the notes without inventing fish yield
Add C1, N1 and B1 in full after this instruction. Save the response separately alongside the originals so the person taking the order can check it.
“Review B1 against C1 and N1 by codes P1, P2 and P3. Return product, exact quantity and unit, before/after cleaning or unspecified weight basis, requested preparation, separate parts, incorrect statement in B1 and pending question. Cite document and exact passage. Separate requested quantity from recorded weighing. Do not extend one product’s policy to another. Do not calculate loss, yield or cleaned weight from whole weight; do not invent weighings, stock, substitutions, price, acceptance or date. If the basis is missing, ask and preserve the ambiguity. Do not confirm the order, send messages or give food-related instructions.”
A manually written clarification for P3 would be: “When you say a one-kilo sea bass prepared, do you mean its weight before cleaning or the weight of the prepared product? We need to check what we can offer before confirming.” This is neither a sent message nor a supply commitment.
Second test: new weighings must not rewrite the request
Create another version and add W2 · “Fictional P1 record: 1940 g of fish before cleaning; 1160 g of prepared loins. No separate head and bone weighing, price or final acceptance recorded.” These are invented values, not measurements from a real trial or a recommended yield.
The manual reference for this variant preserves the original request for a fish of about 2 kg before cleaning and separately adds both W2 values with their descriptions. It does not change P2 or resolve P3. It does not turn 1160 g into a promise of 2 kg of loins, or assign the difference between readings to head and bones. Nor does it mark the order accepted or paid.
Look for these errors in the response: applying P1’s weight to another line, calling N1’s target measured, applying a generic percentage or resolving P3’s uncertainty by habit. Anthropic recommends allowing the assistant to acknowledge uncertainty and checking claims with citations. That is review guidance, not a guarantee this prompt will work.
A pilot measuring order errors rather than promising savings
Prepare fictional examples with whole fish, prepared product, missing weight bases and weighings added later. Write the manual solution first. Then compare changed weight bases, invented quantities, omitted questions and false weighing claims; also record total time to prepare and review each sheet.
Decide beforehand what requires correction: for example, an unsupported net-weight promise or an ambiguous line presented as confirmed. Keep input, output, change and reviewer. If the assistant creates more correction work than it helps with, adjust the sheet and instruction or retain manual review. There are no measured results or demonstrated savings for this pilot.
From a manual trial to a clearly scoped integration
Trying the prompt means entering these fictional texts into an assistant and reviewing its proposal. It does not connect messaging, scales, tills or an online shop. If a sheet with a clearly visible weight basis solves the problem, start there.
If orders arrive through several channels and someone else prepares them, a limited custom project could be assessed: lines with weight bases, request versions, documented weighings and human approval before confirmation. Export formats, permissions, data conditions and actual system access would need checking. No connection to any scale, till or program is assumed.
Adaris Tech develops custom software, CRM and automation with AI considered case by case. To discuss this process, prepare a fictional sheet and explain where quantities currently get confused. Scope and a written quote are agreed before engagement; commercial contact is in Spanish.
